Baseball Defeated by Washington & Lee in Season Finale

The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team (5-30-1, 4-17-1 ODAC) fall to Washington & Lee in twin bill. Losing game one 5-3 and game two 5-1.

Game One:
The Marlins took an early 1-0 lead as Michael Burton Jr. singled to the pitcher, Matt Sinko walked, and Trent Hanchey reached on an error by the second baseman to score Burton from third. 

The General scored two runs in the third and fifth to lead 4-1. Virginia Wesleyan responded with a run in the eighth, Hanchey walked to lead off the inning, Hanhey stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Chris Mitchell Jr. grounded out to the first base to score Hanchey. 

Washington & Lee added a run in the bottom of the eighth to lead 5-2. The Marlins scored once in the top of the ninth as Jaelen Hines walked then stole second before Sinko singled up the middle to score Hines to bring the score to 5-3. 

Michael Burton Jr. went 2-for-5 and scored one run, Chris Mitchell Jr. went 2-for-4 and had one RBI, and Matt Sinko went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Nick Beatty took the loss, pitched 4.0 innings, allowed four runs on five hits, and had two strikeouts.  

Game Two: 
After going down 2-0, the Marlins countered with a run of their own. Started with a Trent Hanchey walk, Samuel Kasprow singled up the middle, and TJ McGowan doubled to right center to score Hanchey from second to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Generals scored three more runs to win 5-1.

TJ McGowan led the team going 2-for-4 with a double, and an RBI, Connor Hall went 2-for-4, and Trent Hanchey went 1-for-2, scored a run, and walked twice. 

Cam Nolet started and pitched 7.0 innings, allowed four runs, on nine hits, and had four strikeouts.
