The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team (5-10, 3-4 GMAC) beat conference opponent Guilford 20-4.
Before the start of today's contest Virginia Wesleyan women's lacrosse team honored its four-member senior class;
Camryn Gavula,
Natalie Dunn,
Mikayla Szudera, and Broke Morris.
With the win, the Marlins clinch a playoff berth in the ODAC Championship Tournament.
Helen Kennedy-Butler led the team with nine points, five goals, and four assists, three caused turnovers, and one ground ball,
Mikayla Szudera recorded five points, four goals, one assist, and had one ground ball, and
Brittneyann Hoover got the win, playing all 60 minutes, allowed four goals, and made four saves.
Helen Kennedy-Butler opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, followed by a
Breanna Sviland to lead 2-0. The Quakers got on the board to cut the score to 2-1.
Natalie Dunn scored her first goal of the game off a feed from Kennedy-Butler, and
Madison Pfister scored on a free-position shot to lead 4-1 at the end of the first quarter.
Kennedy-Butler continued her scoring in the second quarter with a goal, Pfister scored with a nice pass from
Shaunice Rone and followed that with an unassisted goal to take a 7-1 lead. Mikayle Szudera got on the board with a pass from Kennedy-Butler to lead, then a goal from
Madison Pfister, and a free-position shot goal from
Natalie Dunn to lead 10-1. Szudera scored off a feed from
Michaela Elston. Guilford scored to cut the lead to 11-2.
Natalie Dunn scored an unassisted goal before halftime to lead 12-2.
The Marlins kept up its momentum in the second half as
Michaela Elston added a goal off a pass from Kennedy-Butler, then Kennedy-Butler scored with an assist from Elston to lead 14-2.
Madison Pfister scored with an assist from Szudera, then
Mikayla Szudera scored a free-position goal to lead 16-2.
Helen Kennedy-Butler scored unassisted to lead 17-2 heading into the final quarter.
Virginia Wesleyan outscored the Quakers 3-2 in the fourth quarter,
Natalie Dunn scored with an assist from
Gabriella Watton, the first point of her collegiate career. Helen Kenedy-Butler scored an unassisted goal, and
Mikayla Szudera scored the 20th goal of the game with an assist from Kennedy-Butler to seal the win on senior day.

Natalie Dunn registered four goals, and five draw controls, and caused one turnover, and Madison Pfiester scored four goals, had eight draw controls, two caused turnovers, and three ground balls.
