The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team (3-1) defeated non-conference opponent Wabash College.
Mark Sprague had a great day with a team-high five goals and eight assists to lead the Marlins. Sprague enters the record book sitting second in single-game assists with eight today, behind
Scott Holava with 11 assists versus Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) in 1991.
The Little Giants started strong with three goals in the first three minutes of play. Virginia Wesleyan got on the board as
Daniel Auxier scored on a goal from Sprague, followed by a goal from
Sam Edwards assisted by
Jackson Rockhill to bring the score to 3-2 at the 8:50 mark. The Marlins outscored the Little Giants 3-1 the rest of the quarter to take a 5-4 lead seconds before the break.
Wabash came back and scored three goals to start the second quarter to take a 7-5 lead at the 10:11 mark in the second quarter. The Little Giants outscored VWU 4-3 the rest of the second quarter and held an 11-8 lead at halftime.
The Marlins came out of halftime scoring three unanswered goals to tie the game at 11-11.
Jackson Dinger scored the second half's first goal, followed by
Sam Edwards with an assist from
Mark Sprague, and Sprague scored the game-tying goal at the 11:05 mark. VWU kept the momentum outscoring the Little Giants 4-2 to lead 15-13 heading into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter,
Liam Murphy scored a goal a man down to extend the Marlins' lead to 16-13. Wabash had a surge scoring three goals to tie the game at 16 all. However,
Mark Sprague took over as he scored three unanswered goals to give VWU a 19-16 lead. Virginia Wesleyan kept the lead the rest of the way and went on to win 22-17.

Jackson Rockhill recorded four goals, and two assists, with four shots on goal, and two ground balls, and Same Edwards had four goals, with five shots on goal, six ground balls, and one caused turnover.
Liam Murphy scored three goals, with eight shots on goal, one ground ball and one caused turnover and teammate
Jackson Dinger had two goals and one assist, with four shots on goal.
Zack Tucker got the win in the net as he played the second half, allowing six goals against, and seven saves.
