The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team (1-10) was defeated by Rowan University 9-5.
Rowan started the game with three runs in the top of the first innings. The Marlins scored in the bottom of the first on a passed by that scored Jealen Hines from third to cut the visitor lead to 3-1.
The Profs added a run in the second, but VWU answered with a run as
Ty Krantz struck out but reached on a wild pitch that scored
Jake Ness from third to bring the score to 4-2.
The Profs got their bats going and scored five runs to lead 9-2 through seven innings.
The Marlins scored two runs in the eighth inning to cut the lead down to 9-4.
John Bastiaans walked to start the eighth, followed by a double by Ness to put runners on the corners. Up to the plate was
Michael Burton Jr. who hit a single to left field that scored Ness and Bastiaans.
In the ninth inning, VWU scored one run as
Chase James was walked with the bases load to score a run but a pop-up ended the game with the bases load to give Rowan the 9-5 win.
Jake Ness led the team as he went 2-for-3 at bat and scored three runs, and
Michael Burton Jr. went 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Cowell Ryan did the best on the mound for the Marlins as he pitched 4.0 innings, allowed one run off three hits, and had one strikeout.
Nick Beatty took the loss as he started the game and went 3.0 innings, allowed four runs, off five hits, and struck out two.
