Softball Takes Two Games in Doubleheader Over North Carolina Wesleyan University

The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (14-4) swept North Carolina Wesleyan University winning game one 8-0, and game two 8-2.

Game One:
After a scoreless first inning, the Marlins got on the board in the second as Brooke Anderson singled through the left side and stole second, then Laci Campbell hit an RBI single up the middle to take a 1-0 lead. 

The Marlins scored four runs in the bottom of the third, starting with Julia Piotrowski hitting a double to left center field, followed by a walk to Madison Hudson, and Abigail Craige reached on an error by the shortstop to load up the bases. Anderson singled up the middle to score Piotrowski and Hudson extended the Marlins' lead to 3-0. Laci Campbell singled up the middle to load up the bases again. Mackenzie Swanson singled up the middle to score Anderson and Craige to lead 5-0. 

Jaya Diggs-Hagwood singled to third base to lead off the bottom of the sixth and stole second. Caitlin Myers singled up the middle to put runners on the corners, then Piotrowski doubled to deep left field to score both runners and lead 7-0. Hudson hit another double to advance Piotrowski to third, and Craige reached on a fielders choice that scored Piotrowski to seal the 8-0 win over the Battling Bishops.

Emily Seale recorded the win in the circle, throwing 6.0 innings, only allowing two hits, and striking out two. 

Julia Piotrowski led the team going 3-for-4 with a double, scored two runs, and had two RBI, Brooke Anderson went 3-for-3 scored two runs, and two RBI, Mackenzie Swanson went 1-for-1 with two RBI, and Laci Campbell went 2-for-2 with one RBI. 

Game Two:
North Carolina Wesleyan scored in the first inning to lead 1-0, but the Marlins responded with two runs in the bottom of the first to lead 2-1. Sarah Prosser doubled down the left field line to start the inning, Alison Pollack walked, and Prosser stole third on the fourth ball. Then, a double steal by the runners scored Prosser at home to tie the game, but Pollack was caught stealing at second to clear the bases. Autumn Boothe singled up the middle followed by Julia Piotrowski hitting a double to center field. A passed ball advanced both runners and scored Boothe from third to give VWU a 2-1 lead. 

The Marlins scored two in the fourth to lead 4-1. With Prosser and Anderson on the corners a wild pitch scored Anderson to put one run on the board with one out. Then, Pollack hit a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher scoring Prosser from third. 

The Battling Bishops scored a run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead down to 4-2, but Virginia Wesleyan extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth scoring four runs to lead 8-2. Anderson reached on an error to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Campbell, and scored off a single to left field by Prosser. Pollack singled through the left side to put runners on the corners and Boothe grounded out to third base but advanced the runners to lead 6-2. With Diggs-Hagwood and Piotrowski on second and third, Olivia Knight doubled to left field to score both runners and give the Marlins an 8-2 lead. 

Lauren Bible notched the win in the circle, as she pitched 7.0 innings, allowed two runs off seven hits, and tallied three strikeouts.

Sarah Prosser led the team going 4-for-4 with a double, scored three runs, and had one RBI, Olivia Knight went 1-for-3 with a double and led the team with two RBI, and Julia Piotrowski went 2-for-3 with two doubles and scored one run.
