The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team (3-11-1, 2-0-1 ODAC) cruised past EMU 11-0.
The Marlins started strong scoring four runs in the first inning.
Samuel Kasprow reached first on the throwing error, then
Matt Sinko was hit by a pitch, and
John Bastiaans walked to load the bases for
Michael Burton Jr. who was hit by a pitch to score a run. Then,
Jake Ness was walked, scoring run number two.
Edgar Harwood singled up the middle with the bases loaded scoring Bastiaans and Burton to take a 4-0 lead.
VWU scored two more in the second, starting with a double from Kasprow.
Matt Sinko hit an RBI single to left field to score a run, then Bastiaans grounded out to advance Sinko to second. Burton singled to right center to score Sinko and give the Marlins a 6-0 lead.
Trent Hanchey started the fourth inning with a lead-off single through the right side and stole second. Next, Bastiaans doubled to score Hanchey. Burton singled up the middle allowing Bastiaans to score from third to take an 8-0 led.
Kasprow homered down the left-field line to extend the lead to 9-0.
With the bases loaded in the sixth,
Chris Mitchell Jr. hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Bastiaans to extend their lead to 10-0.
In the seventh, Kasprow hit a lead-off double down the third base line, and Sinko singled to center field to score Kasprow to lead 11-0.
Samuel Kasprow led the offense as he went 3-for-5 with two doubles and one home run, scored four runs, and one RBI,
Michael Burton Jr. went 2-for-3, scored one run, and tallied three RBI, and
Matt Sinko went 2-for-4, scored two runs, and had two RBI.
Cam Nolet registered the win as he pitched 7.0 innings, only allowed four hits, and had eight strikeouts.
