Softball Split Two Games in Cross Bay Bash

The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (6-3) won the first game 5-4 against Millikin and lost game two 6-5 against Pfeiffer in extra innings. 

Game One:
Millikin got on the board first with a double to right field that put the visitors up 1-0. 

After three scoreless innings, the Marlins got on the board scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Madison Hudson was walked to start the inning, then Julia Piotrowski singled to center field putting runners at the corners, and Laci Campbell singled to score two runs. Sarah Prosser singled to left field moving Campbell to third and Campbell scored on a wild pitch to give the Marlins a 3-1 lead. 

The Big Blue took back the lead scoring three runs in the top of the sixth to lead 4-3. 

The Marlins' never quit as they rallied in the seventh starting with Alison Pollack hitting a lead-off single. Then, with the bases loaded with two outs, Autumn Boothe pinch hit and reached first on an error by the second baseman that scored two runs and gave VWU the 5-4 win. 

Laci Campbell led the team hitting 2-for-2 with a triple, scoring one run, and had two RBI, Autumn Boothe put the ball in play for the game-sealing runs and went 0-for-1 with two RBI. Sarah Prosser went 2-for-4 at the plate and teammate Julia Piotrowski went 2-for-3 and scored one run. 

Emma Adams started the game and pitched 4.0 innings, allowed one run on four hits, and recorded one strikeout, Emily Seale got the win in the circle as she pitched 1.1 innings and allowed one hit.

Game Two:
An action packed game two saw both teams homer in the first inning to deadlock the team at 1-1. 

Pfeiffer scored again in the second inning with a two RBI homer to right field to take a 3-1 lead. 

The Marlins responded in the third with two runs to tie the game at 3-3. Sarah Prosser hit a lead-off single and then stole second and Alison Pollack doubled the left field to score Prosser. Emma Adams followed Pollack with another double to left field to score Pollack. 

After seven innings, neither team was able to break the tie forcing the teams to go into extra innings. With a runner placed a second the Falcons scored three runs off a home run to lead 6-3.

The Marlins started the bottom of the eighth with a double from Brooke Anderson to left field to score the placed runner at second. With the bases loaded Pollack reached on a fielder's choice to score Anderson from third to cut the lead to 6-5. Two great plays by the Falcons' second baseman ended the Marlins' surge. 

Emma Adams led the offense as she went 3-for-4 with a home run and double, scored on run, and had two RBI, Sarah Prosser went 2-for-5 and scored one run, and Alison Pollack went 1-for-4 with a double, scored one run, and recorded two RBI. 

Emily Seale started in the circle and pitched 4.0 innings, allowed three runs on four hits, and struck out three, and Emma Adams recorded the loss as she pitched 4.0 innings allowing three runs on two hits, and tallied two strikeouts.
