The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (5-2) defeated Trine University 3-2.
The Thunder struck first in the second inning off a single to left field and scored an unearned run to go up 1-0.
The Marlins responded in the third inning as
Sarah Prosser singled to lead off and then stole second. Then,
Emma Adams singled up the middle to score Prosser tying the game at 1-1.
Virginia Wesleyan took the lead in the bottom of the second scoring one run. Caitlin Myer doubled to left field to start the inning. Pinch hitter
Autumn Boothe hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Myers from third to take a 2-1 lead over Trine.
Trine's clean-up hitter Debbie Hill hit a home run in the fifth inning to lock the game at 2.
VWU responded in the bottom of the sixth as
Olivia Knight doubled to left field, followed by a single from Myers to put runners on the corners, and
Julia Piotrowski singled up the middle to score Knight and give the Marlins a 3-2 lead.
The starter
Emily Seale pitched 4.2 innings, allowed two runs on five hits, and struck out four and
Emma Adams got the win in relief as she pitched 2.1 innings, allowed zero hits, and tallied two strikeouts to seal the win for the Marlins.
Caitlin Myers led the team as she went 3-for-3 at bat and scored one run, and
Sarah Prosser went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored one run.
Emma Adams batted 1-for-3 with an RBI and teammate
Julia Piotrowski went 1-for-1 with one RBI.
