SALEM, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team fell to the 2nd seeded Tigers of Hampden-Sydney College 78-69 on Friday evening at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, VA.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Marlins got things started by scoring the first five points of the game, all coming from the hand of
Omari DeVeaux. VWU led by six points twice, 8-2 and 11-5, before H-SC came back to take a one-point lead 12-11. After trading the next three baskets back and forth, the Tigers went on an 8-0 run taking a 23-15 lead by the 8:44 mark. Virginia Wesleyan climbed back to even the score at 28 all following a 13-5 rally. The Tigers went ahead by five points, 35-30, but the Marlins managed to pull within two again as the teams headed into the halftime break with the score sitting at 37-35 H-SC lead.
The teams came out and battled through the first six minutes of the second half as the score knotted up five times, the last at 49 all with 14:11 on the clock. Hampden-Sydney went on a 9-2 run taking a 58-51 lead with 7:22 remaining in regulation. The Marlins managed to pull within four-points last in the game, 67-63 with 2:29 to play, but the Tigers converted on their late free throws and shot attempts to pull ahead by nine points and win the game 78-69.

The Marlins were led by sophomore and ODAC All-Conference honoree
Omari DeVeaux with 22 points. Joining DeVeaux in double digits was
Jordan Crump and
Eric Rowland with 11 and 10 points respectively. Rowland led the team with nine rebounds.
