The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team (6-1, 0-1 ODAC) fell to Randolph-Macon 50-41.
Khai Seargeant led the Marlins offense with 12 points shooting 5-for-14 from the field, 1-for-1 from three, had four rebounds, one steal, and one assist, Jordan Crump recorded 11 points shooting 4-for-11 from the field, and 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, with two rebounds, and two steals, and Miles Wallace had seven points shooting 2-for-6 from the field, and 1-for-2 from three-point territory, grabbed four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Keys to the Game:
- The Marlins shot 16-for-52 (30.8%) from the field, while the Yellow Jackets shot 20-for-46 (43.5%).
- VWU outshot RMC from beyond the arc 41.7 percent (5-for-12) compared to 33.3 percent (7-for-21).
- Virginia Wesleyan outrebounded Randolph-Macon 35-29, and the Marlins were able to dominate the offensive boards 12-4.
How it Happened:
The Yellow Jackets started the game strong jumping out to a 7-5 lead, but the Marlins came back with a 7-0 run to take a 12-7 lead at the 15:59 mark. Randolph-Macon rallied back with a 7-0 run to lead 14-12. VWU responded with a three from Jordan Crump, giving the visitors a 15-14 lead.
The Yellow Jackets kept up the pressure and went on an 8-3 run to take a 26-18 lead with 4:16 left in the first half. Virginia Wesleyan rallied with a 7-2 run over the next minute and a half to cut the lead down to 28-25. RMC went into the break with a 31-27 lead.
The Marlins started the second half well, going on a 6-2 run in the first five minutes of the half to tie the game at 33-33. The Yellow Jackets countered with a 7-2 run to take a 40-35 lead with just under 11 minutes to go in the game.
In the last ten minutes, Randolph-Macon went on a 10-3 run to take a 50-38 lead with 1:54 left in the game. VWU caused three turnovers and had two steals in the final two minutes to score three points to cut the lead down to 50-41. The Yellow Jackets lead was too great, and they sealed the win over VWU.
