The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team (23-4, 11-0 ODAC) swept the University of Lynchburg 3-0, winning 25-17, 25-19. 25-16.
The Marlins started strong, going up 6-2 in the game, but the Hornets fought back to cut the lead to 6-8. However, the Marlins countered with an 11-1 run to take a 19-7 lead. Lynchburg responded with a 10-3 run to bring the score to 22-17. VWU went on a 3-0 run to win the set 25-17.
The second set was tightly contested early on with the Marlins holding a 7-6 lead until Virginia Wesleyan went on a 5-0 run to lead 12-6. The Hornets had a 5-0 rally to cut the lead to 12-11, but VWU countered with a 6-0 run to take an 18-11 lead. Lynchburg went on a 5-1 run to bring the score to 19-16. The Marlins outscored the Hornets 6-3 to win set two 25-19.
Virginia Wesleyan turned on the heat in the third set, starting with a 20-5 run. Lynchburg responded with a 5-0 run to bring the score to 20-10, and the visitors chipped away at the Marlins lead the rest of the set. However, VWU's lead was too much and won the set 25-16.
Emma Claytor led the Marlins as she tallied 12 kills, with a .421 hitting percentage, five digs, and two service aces, and
Kate Ayre recorded eight kills with a .286 hitting percentage, and one block assist.
Abigail Mahoney had six kills, with a .500 hitting percentage, one block assist, and one assist, and teammate
