The Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team (21-2, 10-0 ODAC) defeated Ferrum 3-0 for their tenth conference win of the season, winning 25-11, 25-17, and 25-10.
Virginia Wesleyan had a fast start and outscored the Panthers 12-5. Ferrum went on a 5-3 run to bring the score to 15-10, but the Marlins countered with a 10-1 run to win the first set 25-11.
The Marlins continued their fine form and jumped out to a 7-4 lead to begin the second set. VWU took an 11-7 lead, but the Panthers went on a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 11-10. Virginia Wesleyan responded with a 4-1 run to lead 15-11, but Ferrum countered with a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 16-15. The Marlins offense awoke and outscored the host 9-2 to win set two 25-17.
In the third set, the Marlins built an 11-4 lead, then the Panthers went on a 3-0 run to bring the score to 11-7. The Marlins continued their dominance and went on a 14-3 run to win the third set 25-10.
Hannah Smith led the Marlins with eight kills, a .167 hitting percentage,
Haley Sutton recorded 13 assists, three kills, four service aces, and three digs, and
Alexis Shaw had five kills, with a .500 hitting percentage, one solo block, and one block assist.
