Marlins fall to Bishops in the Battle of the Wesleyans

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan fell to the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College on Tuesday afternoon in a midweek nonconference contest at Kenneth R. Perry Field at TowneBank Park in Virginia Beach, VA. VWU scored five runs against the Bishops in the 9-5 loss.

GAME RUNDOWN
The Bishops struck early as a double to left center and a sacrifice fly to left field drove in a pair of runs to put NCWC up 2-0 in the top of the first inning. 

The Marlins put their first run of the game up on the board in the bottom of the second as a Garrett Lyons single through the left side scored Ronaldo Del Duca putting the score at 2-1.

North Carolina Wesleyan had a big top of the third inning where they added four runs to their total including a pair of home runs to opposite corners of the park that drove the score up to 6-2. 

Lyons added a second RBI to his stat line in the bottom of the third as he singled to right field driving in Matt Sinko for the third Marlin run. 

An infield sac fly in the top of the sixth scored one for the Bishops, while they added two more in the top of the eighth on a double and an infield groundout putting NCWC ahead 9-3. 

VWU added a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth as Thomas Crandall scored on a wild pitch and a Conor Hall double to center field score Jaelen Hines, but the Marlins could not catch the Bishops as they fell 9-5.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action tomorrow, April 20th, when they host the No. 5 Hornets from the University of Lynchburg at Kenneth R. Perry Field at TowneBank Park for an ODAC single midweek game. First pitch is set for 3:30 PM.
