Marlins push through a pair of runs in mid-week game against Randolph-Macon

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan fell to the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon in a midweek ODAC match-up.

The Yellow Jackets got things started early with a run in the top of the first inning on a single up the middle. The Marlins held tough in a bases loaded situation and left three R-MC runners on the bases. 

In the bottom half of the inning, Jaelen Hines scored after reaching on a walk. Back-to-back hits by Connor Hall and Matt Sinko (RBI) drove Hines around the bags to even the score at one all. 

Virginia Wesleyan in the bottom of the second added another run to their tally taking a 2-1 lead. After starting the inning with two outs, Thomas Crandall hit a single to left center to get on base. Crandall moved to second on a single to center from Miles Christian and came home following Hines' single to right field.

The Marlins held on to the lead until the top of the fifth inning when the Yellow Jackets rallied and put five runs on the board taking a 6-2 lead. R-MC added a seventh run to their stat line in the top of the sixth advancing their lead to five runs, 7-2.

VWU got a pair of runners on the bases in the seventh and ninth innings but could not bat them around as the Yellow Jackets claimed the 7-2 win.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action tomorrow, March 30, when they host the Monarchs of Methodist University at Kenneth R. Perry Field at TowneBank Park in Virginia Beach, VA. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
