VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan tied No. 14 Shenandoah in game to of their doubleheader at Perry Field in TowneBank Park in Virginia Beach, VA on a breezy Saturday afternoon. The Hornets won game one 12-4, while the teams tied in game two 8-8 in 10 innings.

The Marlins found the scoreboard first with a run in the bottom of the second inning as a Ronaldo Del Duca groundout to the shortstop scored JD Robinson.
Shenandoah evened the score in the top of the fourth before the Marlins reclaimed the lead, 2-1, off a single by Matt Sinko the scored Connor Hall. The Hornets again evened the score in the top of the fifth at two all before adding eight more runs combined in the sixth (3) and seventh (5) innings to go up 10-2.
SU put up a solo run in the top of the eighth inning but the Marlins were able to drive in a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the score at 11-4. A Robinson double score Trent Hanchey for the first run while Garrett Lyons drove in Robinson off a single through the left side.
The Hornets tallied one more run in the top of the ninth to put the score at its final resting spot of 12-4.

Shenandoah scored the first pair of runs in the top of the second inning but Virginia Wesleyan came back over the next two turns at the plate to even the score at two all with solo runs in the bottom halves of the third and fourth innings. Matt SInko and Chris Mitchell both came home for the two Marlin runs.
The Hornets added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and a trio in the top if the seventh taking a 7-2 lead at the stretch.The Marlins scored one in the bottom of the seventh as Jaelen Hines scored Ronaldo Del Duca on a double to left field to pull within four runs, 7-3.
SU added an eighth run in the top of the eighth before VWU answered with a single run in the bottom half of the inning. A single by Garrett Lyons scored Hanchey to pull the Marlins within four runs heading into the ninth inning.
Virginia Wesleyan rallied in the bottom of the ninth to score four runs and knot the score at eight all. A Hanchey groundout scored Del Duca to start the rally. Connor Hall came to the plate and smashed a hit over the left field wall that scored two as Zion Ross came home on the play. Matt Sinko followed to the plate and crushed a hit in the same general location as Hall's for the tying run on a home run to left field.
The teams battled through the tenth inning and due to the fast setting sun, the game was called a tie due to darkness.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action again on Tueday when they host ODAC rival Randolph-Macon College at TowneBank Park. First pitch is set for 3:30 PM.
