GAME RUNDOWN
Score: Hampden-Sydney 6 - Virginia Wesleyan 5 - 10 innings
Records: Virginia Wesleyan 10-8 | Hampden-Sydney 12-5
Location: Virginia Beach, VA

GAME RUNDOWN
After an uneventful first inning by both teams, the Tigers bats came to lift as they batted four runs around the bags to take a 4-0 lead. The Marlins responded in the bottom half of the second and third innings with one run in each frame to pull within two runs, 4-2.

VWU's run in the second was scored by Zion Ross as he came home following a JD Robinson sac fly to left field. The Marlins second run was scored by Jaelen Hines following a groundout to the shortstop by Matt Sinko in the third inning.

Neither team scored any runs in the fourth inning and VWU held HSC scoreless in the top of the fifth while the host Marlins knotted up the score at four all in the bottom of the fifth after scoring a pair of runs. After Ronaldo Del Duca reached base on a single to third, Trent Hanchey came to the plate and crushed a pitch of the right field fence for a two RBI home run that tied the score at four all.

The sixth and seventh innings went by without either team scoring, but the Tigers in the top of the eighth managed to drive in a single run to take a 5-4 lead into the ninth inning. The Marlins in the bottom of the ninth inning managed to load the bases and on a wild pitch, JD Robinson came home to even the score at five all and force extra innings.

The Tigers loaded the bases in the top of the tenth with a trio of hits, all in the infield, with no outs and Burnette, a pinch hitter, hit a sacrifice fly out to center field to score one HSC run to give them a 6-5 lead.

The Marlins in the bottom of the tenth went three up and three down en route to a Tiger win.

  • Trent Hanchey hit his fourth home run of the season and has driven in 19 RBI on 23 hits.
  • Ian Brady started his first game of the season on the mound for the Marlins and threw four innings during which he gave up four runs on eight hits.
  • Robert Cook came in to throw one full inning and struck out three of his four batters faced.
  • Connor Mock came in to throw the 10th inning and gave up the game winning run to earn the loss.
