The Marlins picked up where they left off yesterday at Methodist by scoring four runs in the top of the first inning in the Battle of the Wesleyans, Virginia Wesleyan versus North Carolina Wesleyan. After Jaelen Hines and Ronaldo Del Duca were both walked, the duo each advanced a bag on a wild pitch. Trent Hanchey hit a double to left field to score Hines and Del Duca for the first two runs of the game. Hanchey went to third on a passed ball while Matt Sinko reach first via walk and then stole second to put both runners in scoring position. Connor Hall came to the plate and singled to left field scoring both Hanchey and Sinko to give VWU the early 4-0 lead.
Both teams were kept off the board in their next trips to the plate, but NC Wesleyan managed to score a lone run in the bottom of the second putting the score at 4-1. Neither team made any moves in the third to score but the Marlins at their next round at the plate in the top of the fourth, scored four more runs to take an 8-1 lead. Clay Clarke and Hines both reached base with singles to opposite corners of the park. A thirds consecutive single by Del Duca scored Clarke for the first run of the fourth, and Hanchey, who was next to the plate, hit a home run over the right field wall to score Hines and Del Duca on the three RBI hit.
VWU again made waves in the top of the fifth with a single run as Miles Christian crossed the plate off an error by the short stop during Hines' at-bat. The Marlins added two more in the sixth to lead 11-1 heading into the bottom half of the inning. A sac fly by Hall scored Hanchey while Zion Ross singled to the pitcher to score Garrett Lyons.
NC Wesleyan cut the lead to four runs, 11-7, after adding three runs in the bottom of both the sixth and seventh innings. The Marlins put four more runs on the board in the top of the eighth to lead 15-7. The inning began with a solo homer by Sinko over the left field wall. Back to back doubles to right field scored Lyons and Michael Burton, while a single by Clay Clarke drove home Miles Christian for the last VWU run.
The Battling Bishops tried to rally by adding three runs in the bottom of the eighth but VWU help off NCWC to claim the 15-10 win.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action this weekend when they open up their ODAC slate with a road series against the Eagles of Bridgewater College on Saturday, March 19. The Marlins and Eagles meet for a first pitch of 12 PM for game one of the doubleheader.
