VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team defeated the Hornets from the University of Lynchburg on Saturday evening in Lynchburg, VA. VWU defeated LYN 84-76 behind 21 points from
Jordan Crump.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets took the early lead scoring a pair of baskets before the Marlins got on the board from a layup by
Amarion Wilson. Lynchburg held on to their lead, 8-7, until the 15:47 mark when
Anthony Jackson hit a three-pointer to give Virginia Wesleyan a 10-8 lead. Four of the next five buckets from VWU were from behind the three-point arch helping the Marlins take a 10-point lead, 24-14, by the 10:25 mark. Virginia Wesleyan continued to maintain their lead throughout the remainder of the first half, growing the advantage to as many as 14 points, 44-30 (2:47), before taking a nine-point lead, 46-37, into the halftime break.
Lynchburg came out of the break on a 14-4 run taking a 51-50 lead at the 16:38 mark. The teams traded the lead twice and knotted the score twice over the next three minutes but the Hornets managed to gain a slim lead and hold it for seven minutes until
Jordan Crump hit back-to-back three-pointers giving the Marlins a 68-64 lead. Wilson followed with a layup driving the lead up to six points, 70-64, with a little over five minutes left. VWU grew its lead to nine points, 83-74, with 47 seconds remaining, and finished the game with an 84-76 victory.
KEY STATS
The Marlins were led by
Jordan Crump with 21 points who shot 100% from the field going 8-for-8 and 5-for-5 from behind the three-point line, while
Khai Seargeant scored 16 points for the second game in a row.
Eric Rowland recorded 15 points with
Amarion Wilson adding 12 points and
Anthony Jackson contributing 11 points. Four Marlins recorded seven rebounds each in Crump, Wilson, Rowland, and
Miles Wallace. Wallace and Seargeant each tallied five assists, and Wilson recorded five blocks.
