VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team fell to the Hornets from the University of Lynchburg after a 1-1 draw that ended in penalty kicks with Lynchburg winning 5-4 in the championship match of 2022 ODAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Tassos Paphites Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach, VA.

FIRST HALF
The two teams went up and down the field trading possession of the ball with neither finding the back of the net. Lynchburg managed five shots in the opening half while holding Virginia Wesleyan to just one.
SECOND HALF
The teams came out of the halftime break eager to find a score. The Hornets were the first to find the back of the net in the 65th minute managing to sneak the ball past keeper
Rachel Quigley. The Marlins responded about 13 minutes later in the 78th as
Olivia Bryant scored off an
Alexis Miller pass off a corner kick. Neither team was able to find a goal in the remaining 12 minutes despite both teams getting nine shots off in the second half.
OVERTIME
Lynchburg held possession of the ball throughout much of the first overtime period but did not find the goal while taking three shots. Virginia Wesleyan took control of the ball throughout the second overtime period taking four shots while holding the Hornets to one.
PENALTY KICKS
The Marlins held a 1-0 lead after the first round of penalty kicks courtesy of a save by
Rachel Quigley. Both player made their kick in the second round giving VWU a 2-1 advantage. The Hornet keeper evened the score at two all following a save during
Olivia Bryant's PK attempt. Both kickers missed in the fourth round while those in the fifth and sixth rounds connected on their shots putting the score at four all. In the seventh round the Hornet player made her shot while the keeper kept
Rachel Quigley out of the net to give the Hornets the 5-4 advantage for the victory.
