FIRST HALF
Nearly thirty minutes of the first half went by without either team finding the back of the net as the teams played the ball up and down the field. The Marlins in the 32nd minute found the back of the net as
Everett McCloskey played a ball into the goal from the right side of the box off the head of a defender and through the hands of the keeper for the opening goal. The Tigers evened the score about seven minutes later as the teams entered halftime even at one all.
SECOND HALF
The teams came out of the break eager to find the go-ahead goal. Four minutes into the start of the second half,
Caleb Jackson headed the ball into the back of the net following a corner kick pass in from
Ilan Mejia to
Nate Mitchell who sent it to Jackson for the go-ahead goal. Hampden-Sydney became very aggressive the remainder of the second half taking 10 shots, however, neither managed to find the back of the net the rest of the game as VWU claimed the win 2-1.
