VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team fell to the Maroons of Roanoke College 92-30 on Saturday afternoon at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The game began the Maroon opening with an 11-0 run before the Marlins found their first bucket. RC put up another six points putting the score at 17-2 when Logan Cater connected on a jumper to bring the score to 17-4. Roanoke closed out the first with a 17-0 run to head into the second ten minutes of action with a 30-point lead, 34-4.
The second quarter saw Roanoke score 20 points while the Marlins managed just ten points as the teams went into halftime with the Maroons leading by 40-points, 54-14.
Roanoke added 19 points to their total in the third quarter while Virginia Wesleyan collected six in the third period of action. The score sat at 73-20 as the two squads entered the final quarter of play.
The Maroons put another 19 points on the board in the fourth quarter while the Marlins added 10 points in the final quarter to match their second quarter point total, but the depth of the Maroon bench was hard to beat as VWU fell 92-30.

The Marlins were led
Celeste Rucker and
Sabrina Jones each with eight points in the contest. Jones led the Marlins with 10 rebounds.
ROANOKE LEADERS
The Maroons were led by Kristina Harrel with 19 points and eight rebounds. She was closely followed by Ayanna Scarborough with 18 points of her own to go along with seven rebounds. Renee Alquiza was the only other RC player in double-digit points with 11.

The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 9, when they take to the road for a contest at Bridgewater College. Tip off is set for 7 PM. Per ODAC policies, no fans will be allowed in the game so fans can follow the game here.
