FOREST, Virginia - Virginia Wesleyan's
Hanna Hull and
Jessica Goldyn were named the Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, as announced by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference office on Monday afternoon.
The No. 4 Marlins opened their season with a pair of games at William Peace University in Raleigh, NC, and swept the Pacers 9-0, 10-0 (5 innings) in route to going 2-0 on the weekend.
Hanna Hull pitched all seven innings of game one and struck out 16 of the 27 batters she faced in her first game back in the circle.
Jessica Goldyn in game one took five at-bats and recorded two runs on four hits and drove in four RBI. She hit wo doubles and a triple in her five attempts at the plate and stole two bases en route to helping the Marlins win 9-0. In game two, Goldyn took two at-bats recording two hits, one being a double, and scored two runs while helping VWU win 10-0.
Virginia Wesleyan returns to action this Wednesday, Feb. 24, when they return to Tom & Betty Broyles Field at TowneBank Park for the home opener against the Avenging Angels of Meredith College for a double header. Game times are set for 1:30 and 3:30 PM and will be broadcasted for fans to follow along from home.
