The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (10-0) swept non-conference opponent Widener, winning game one 10-0 and winning game two 13-0.

Savannah Ballou closed out the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two to complete the shutout.
The Marlins finished with eight hits, led by Tucker's three-hit, four-RBI performance. Deitsch also drove in two runs, while McQueen added an RBI.
The top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan University softball team continued its dominant start to the season Tuesday afternoon, defeating Widener 10-0 in a five-inning run-rule victory at Broyles Field.
The Marlins struck first in the opening inning. After two quick outs,
Morgan Tucker doubled and moved to third before Taylor McQueen delivered an RBI single to center field to plate the game's first run.
Virginia Wesleyan broke the game open in the second inning with a four-run frame.
Alison Pollack and
Emma Adams opened the inning with walks before
Sarah Prosser was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Laci Campbell lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Pollack, and moments later
Morgan Tucker cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to left center to give the Marlins a 5-0 advantage.
The Marlins added four more runs in the third inning to put the contest out of reach.
Samantha Deitsch highlighted the inning with a two-RBI triple, while Tucker and others added to the offensive surge as Virginia Wesleyan pushed its lead to 9-0.
Virginia Wesleyan added one more run in the fourth to reach double digits.
Game Two:

Hannah Hearl delivered a dominant performance to earn the win. Hearl struck out seven over three hitless innings while allowing just one walk.
Emma Orr followed with two scoreless innings to finish the combined shutout.
Campbell led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while
Samantha Deitsch,
Morgan Tucker, and
Sarah Prosser all contributed key hits during the outburst.
