Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan baseball team defeated the No. 9 Seagulls of Salisbury University 6-1 in a single midweek home contest on Wednesday, Feb. 26, in Kenneth Perry Field at TowneBank Park in Virginia Beach, VA. The Marlins move to 3-5 on the season while No. 9 Salisbury is now 4-2 overall.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The game began with a pair of scoreless innings for both teams and a scoreless top of the third for the Seagulls. The Marlins found their way onto the board in the bottom half of the third on a double from Jacob Pilarski to rightfield that scored Dylan Gentry and Austin Obenour from third and second respectively giving VWU a 2-0 lead.
Neither team found a run in the fourth but Salisbury put a solo run on the board in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice groundout that scored the runner from third putting the score at 2-1. The Marlins found no answer in the bottom half of the fifth but an inning later in the bottom of the sixth, VWU scored four runs taking a 6-1 lead that they held until the final out.
The sixth began with Tyriq Campbell and Zack Clark reaching base on balls. Campbell found his way around to third on a passed ball during Clark's at-bat putting runners on the corners. The duo each advanced a base on a passed ball during Nick Price's at-bat which scored Campbell. Dylan Gentry sent a double down the leftfield line that scored Clark putting the score at 4-1. Gentry advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a Miles Christian double down the rightfield line. Christian reached third on a balk and came home on a single from Matt Dagostino putting the Marlins ahead 6-1.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Jacob Pilarski with two hits in four at-bats and two RBI's. Dylan Gentry also had a strong game earning two runs in three at-bats on one hit and driving in one RBI.
Jay Crusemire (W: 1-0) picked up the win throwing four innings and giving up just one hit and striking out one batter. Adam Brooks came in to pitch two innings and gave up one run on one hit and struck out one batter. Zach Lubick, Andrew Lowe, and Jacob Pilarski all threw one inning each. Lubick and Pilarski each struck out two while Lowe struck out one.
NO. 9 SALISBURY LEADERS
The No. 9 Seagulls were led by Stephen Rice with one run on one hit in two at-bats. Jimmy Adkins recorded the lone RBI for the Seagulls.
Jackson Balzan (L: 1-1) threw five innings giving up four runs on five hits while walking four and striking out six. Clayton Dwyer threw two-thirds of an inning and gave up two runs on two hits and struck out two. Corey Burton threw one and a third innings striking out three batters and giving up one hit. Colt Stemkowski came in to pitch the final inning and gave up one hit for the Seagulls.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the sixth inning when the Marlins put four runs on the board taking a 6-1 lead over the Seagulls.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action this Friday and Saturday, February 28 & 29, when they host the Generals of Washington and Lee University in the first home ODAC Conference series of the season. The Marlins and Generals will play two games one on Friday at 2 PM and the second on Saturday starting at 12 PM.
