FOREST, Virginia - The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday afternoon the 2020 'Of the Year Awards' and the All-Conference members prior to the beginning of the ODAC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament this weekend in Salem, VA. Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball placed three student-athletes on the All-Conference teams including two first-team honorees.
Senior Daniel Spencer and junior Tim Fisher each picked up first-team nods while junior Corey Pelham earned a place on third-team. The trio combines for 1,044 of the 1,929 points scored by the Marlins this season. Combined they've also grabbed 458 (1020) rebounds, 201 (365) assists, 98 (196) steals, and 49 (108) blocks.
Fisher leads the Marlins in several statistical categories and has been a huge presence under the basket for the team as well. He currently leads the team in points (375), field goals made (136), rebounds (229), and blocks (34). Fisher also sits second in assists with 60 and third in steals with 28. The first-team nod is the first of Fisher's career. Fisher was named a third-team member following the 2019 season.
Daniel Spencer proved to be a big asset for the Marlins this season helping the team pull out the victory in some close games. The senior for Charlotte, NC, tallied 334 points on 132 field goals made including 28 three-pointers for the Marlins this season. He added 151 rebounds, 54 assists, and a team-high 41 steals. This was the second time in his career that Spencer landed on an ODAC All-Conference first-team, as he earned the nod with the Emory & Henry Wasps and now with the Marlins.
Rounding out the All-Conference awards is Corey Pelham who earned his first all-conference nod with a spot on the 2020 third-team. Pelham is the second-leading scorer for the Marlins with 335 points on 104 made field goals including a team-high 58 three-pointers made. He leads VWU in assists with 80 and is second on the team in steals with 29.
VWU went 21-4 in the regular season while collecting a 13-3 mark against ODAC conference foes. The No. 2 seeded Marlins take to the court again on Friday, February 28, when they take on the No. 7 seed Panthers of Ferrum College in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament at 6 PM at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, VA.
