Men's Basketball Defeats FDU-Florham 88-60 to win the 2019 Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament

READING, Pennsylvania - The Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins men's basketball team defeated the Devils of FDU-Florham College 88-60 in the championship game of the Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament hosted by Albright College on Monday afternoon. The Marlins improve to 10-1 overall while the Devils fall to 5-6 on the year.

GAME INFORMATION
The Marlins were crowned the Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament Champions after going 2-0 in the tournament hosted by the Lions of Albright College. The victory is the seventh consecutive win for the Marlins who are off until January 4.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The game began with the Marlins taking a 6-2 lead but the Devils came back to lead 14-12 with 15 minutes remaining. Back to back three-pointers from Corey Pelham and Daniel Spencer put the Marlins ahead 18-14 at the 13:43 mark of the opening half. The two teams traded points and saw the Devils pull within two, 20-18 at the 12-minute mark, but VWU took an eight-point lead, 26-18, follow another pair of threes from Spencer and Jordan White. Virginia Wesleyan rolled on from there scoring 25 points in the final 11 minutes of the half while holding the Devils to just nine additional first-half points.

FDU-Florham cut the Virginia Wesleyan lead to 15 points as they trailed 54-39 at the 15:45 mark. The Marlins went on a run that opened their lead back up to 30-points, 76-46, with under 9:30 to play. The final nine minutes of the game saw the teams trade baskets with the Devils leading a 14-12 run. The Marlins held on to a 28 point lead to win the game 88-60.

VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
VWU was led by Daniel Spencer who scored 19 points in the contest. He was followed by Jordan White who had 18 points, all from three-pointers, as the sophomore shot 6-9 from behind the three-point arc. Senior Tim Fisher tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, his fifth of the season.

FDU-FLORHAM LEADERS
The Devils were led by Oliver Ortman with 14 points and Andrew Schulz who tallied 13. Andy Fleurantin was the only other Devil in double-digits.

HONORS & AWARDS
Jordan White was named the Tournament MVP after scoring a weekend total of 32 points while shooting 11-of-18 for a 61.1% field-goal percentage. Joining White is Daniel Spencer who was also named to the All-Tournament team after scoring 31 points on the weekend with 10 rebounds, four assists, and five steals.

KEY MOMENT
The key moments of the game came after the 12-minute mark of the first half when the Marlins took an eight-point lead over the Devils that they never relinquished.

UP NEXT
Virginia Wesleyan is off until January 4, 2020, when the team travels to Lynchburg College to face the Hornets in ODAC conference action. The first tip between the two squads is set for 2 PM in Lynchburg, Va.
