Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team downed Salisbury University (who is receiving votes in the National Poll), 10-5, Tuesday afternoon on the road. That makes it three-straight wins for the squad, improving its record to 8-6 on the season while Salisbury goes to 6-4.
After two scoreless innings to open the game, Randy Neisz put the Marlins on the board in a big way. With the bases juiced, the senior took a ball deep over the fence to plate all four runners and give the visiting squad a healthy lead. In the following inning a Corey King double would bring home Dylan Gentry to increase the lead.
Both teams peppered in runs over the next few innings, with the Seagulls never getting closer than four. Jacob Pilarski would score in the fifth on an error and in the seventh he would produce a sacrifice fly that brought home Zack Clark. In the eighth, King laid down a nice bunt single that allowed Zack Burkhart to score from third. In the final frame, an Austin Obenour singled up the middle that would send in two more insurance runs.
Chance Pauley got the start, pitching 7.0 innings and allowing only one earned run. The senior recorded five strikeouts as well. Glen Pizzanello came in for the final two frames, fanning three batters and only giving up one earned run.
Baseball returns to the diamond at 3 p.m. on Thursday as the squad hosts nationally-ranked Christopher Newport University.
