Baseball Unable to Complete Sweep With Loss to Ferrum

Box Score

MOREHEAD CITY, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Ferrum College, 6-1, in Morehead City N.C. Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Marlins fall to 2-1 on the year while Ferrum improves to 1-3.

The Pride put VWU in a hole early as they tagged the Marlins for three runs in the opening frame. Down 4-0 after six, Virginia Wesleyan finally found its way on to the scoresheet. Back-to-back doubles by Austin Obenour and Brandon Kussmaul plated one for the Marlins, but that was all they could suffice.

The squad totalled eight hits on the day, including two from Obenour and Zack Clark.

On the mound, Nick Bay was handed the loss, pitching the opening 2.1 innings and striking out five. Adam Brooks, Andrew Lowe and Zach Lubick combined to finish out the game.

Baseball will return to action at 2 p.m. on Tuesday as the team hosts the University of Mary Washington in the home opener.
