Scott Holava

Holava joined the Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse staff in the Fall of 2018. The Syracuse, N.Y. native brings a plethora of lacrosse knowledge to the program.

The 2022 season saw the Marlins go 5-11 overall and 2-8 in the ODAC, arguably one of the most difficult conferences nationally in men's lacrosse with teams regularly ranked in the top 20. VWU collected a 61.2% shot on goal percentage with 176 goals scored during the season. Junior Mark Sprague (41) and senior Chris Lindemeyer (30) totaled for 71 goals between the two, with Joey Rayman adding 23. Keeper Josh van Zuylen ranked seventh in the ODAC in saves on the season with 161.

Holava has spent the last seven years as the head varsity boy's lacrosse coach at Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School.

Growing up in Central New York, Holava was in a hotbed of lacrosse. He played at SUNY Cortland, a Division III powerhouse, which saw the team get to the NCAA Championship Final Four once and the Quarterfinals twice. After a short stint there, he transferred to Virginia Wesleyan and was part of the inaugural program in 1991. That season he not only led the conference in scoring, but also set the former DIII record for assists in a game with 11. His second year with the Marlins, he was tabbed an All-ODAC member and was chosen to represent the school at the 1992 North/South All-Star game.

Holava is also served as the Commissioner for the Boys HS Lacrosse league in Virginia Beach, and is on the Board of Directors for the US Lacrosse and coaches a U14/U12 team.
