Nick Northern

Nick Northern, a 2011 Virginia Wesleyan College graduate and lacrosse team captain, returned to the program for the 2015-16 school year. He brings 15 years of lacrosse experience back to the Marlins.

Northern was most recently at Ferrum College where he served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons. He helped the Panthers to their first ever SEILC Championship while coaching four players to the SEILC All-Tournament Team and five to the All-SEILC Team. While at Ferrum, Northern served as the recruiting and offensive coordinator. Ferrum averaged 13.5 goals per game in conference play during his tenure.

Prior to Ferrum, Northern spent two years at Shenandoah University, also serving as an assistant coach, recruiting, and offensive coordinator. The 2013 season featured the strongest recruiting class in SU history, consisting of 23 players from six states, including 12 that earned high school honors (All-Conference, All-County, All-State, etc.).

Northern played for head coach J.P. Stewart in the 2010 and 2011 seasons after transferring to VWC. He proved to be one of the leaders on the team from the beginning, earning the position of captain while also garnering ODAC/StellarOne Bank All-Sportsmanship honors as a senior in 2011. He had 17 goals and eight assists in his two-year Marlin career while scooping 39 ground balls.

Northern went to Colonial Forge High School where he was a 2006 US Lacrosse High School All-American midfielder. He earned his BA in Communications from Virginia Wesleyan in 2011 with a concentration in media studies and video production.
