Marcus Curry joined the Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball coaching staff in the summer of 2022, this will be his fourth season with the Marlins. Curry graduated from Guilford College with an undergraduate degree in Sport Management and received his master's degree in Sports Administration from Liberty University.
Following graduation in 2019, Curry joined the coaching staff at his alma mater for two seasons, 2019-20, and 2021-22, helping the team accumulate a 36-15 record.
In 2024-25, Men's Basketball team won the First ECAC Championship in VWU history. They posted a 22-7 record and 12-4 in the conference to secure the #4 seed in the ODAC Championship Tournament. Omari DeVeaux and Amari Moorer both earned All-Conference nods. DeVeaux was named the MVP of the ECAC Tournament.
In 2023-24, the Men’s Basketball team had a resurgence after losing a key contributor early in the year to injury. Playing in the best conference in the country and one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country, the Marlins ran off an impressive 19-9 record leading them back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2015. Khai Seargeant led the team with 11.9 points a game earning him a nod on the All-Conference team.
Curry was a four-year varsity letter winner for fellow ODAC opponents the Bridgewater College Eagles (2014-15) and the Guilford College Quakers (2016-19) playing from 2014 to 2019. During his career, Curry tallied 1,217 points on 439 field goals with 61 three-pointers and 278 free throws made. Curry grabbed 557 boards and dished out 163 assists while blocking 30 shots and recording 76 steals in 95 games. Curry was also an instrumental player in the two ODAC Championships won by the Quakers in 2017 and 2019.
Curry was a two-time All-ODAC First-Team honoree and in his final two seasons with the Quakers averaged 15.57 points and 6.57 rebounds per game. He recorded a career-high 31 points while adding 11 rebounds in the 2017-18 season opener at Greensboro College on Nov. 17. During his senior season (18-19), Curry recorded double-digit points in all but three games with six double-doubles. In 2019 he was named to the NABC DIII All-District second-team and garnered D3hoops.com All-South Region second-team laurels.
