Thomas Seay joined the Marlin baseball program for the 2016 season after spending the previous two years in the recreation industry. He most recently coached at Marist College where he was an assistant coach and recruiting recruiter for the Division I program. He oversaw all recruiting efforts for Marist while overseeing the offense and primarily focusing on the infielders.
In his first year with the Marlins, 2016, five players received All-ODAC accolades, highlighted by first-team selections C.J. Lindsay and Brandon Kussmaul. He helped Kussmaul raise his average from .247 to a team-best .384 in his first year on staff.
Working with the hitters, Seay helped the 2016 squad to a .305 batting average, .372 on-base percentage, and .435 slugging percentage. The squad bashed 17 homeruns, scoring 225 runs in 33 games.
He spent time as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Young Harris College and Slippery Rock University as well. While at Young Harris, he mentored the catching core and established the department's strength and conditioning program. He was responsible for bringing in 27 recruits from eight different states in his season at Young Harris.
Seay oversaw the offense and defense at Slippery Rock in addition to his recruiting duties.
He began his coaching career at Old Dominion University, serving as an assistant for the Monarchs before moving on to Louisburg College in North Carolina. He served as the infield and hitting coordinator for Louisburg while also holding the title of head coach of the developmental team. He implemented the strength and conditioning program at Louisburg.
He coached current MLB players Matt Adams and Daniel Hudson in his career and holds certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Seay graduated from Randolph-Macon College in 2002 with a Bachelors of Art in sociology before getting his Masters of Science in sports leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2003. He is married to the former Melanie Canavan of Kingston, N.Y. The two reside in Newport News with their two dogs, Blue and Willow.
