Freddie Torres

Ferdinand (Freddie) Torres serves as the Marlins’ pitching, hitting, outfielders coach and all the aspects of the game and have been with the Marlins baseball team since the 2021-22 season. 
 
Freddie brought extensive playing coaching and evaluation experience to the Marlins. Prior to joining the Marlins’ coaching staff, he was a Professional Major League Baseball Scout for the Kansas City “Royals” and Seattle “Mariners” from 2001 to 2017. He was awarded by the Mid-Atlantic Scouting Association (MASA) MLB Scout of the Year in 2009, and Fred is an Honorary Member of the Chesapeake Sport Club. 
 
He had also been involved with the Best of Virginia Baseball Camps, Virginia Wesleyan Expos, Virginia Commonwealth Games, and other local universities baseball camps since 2001, and in addition to serving as an instructor, was assigned to spring training while serving as a mentor to Latin-American players from 2014 to 2016. 
 
Torres played professionally in Puerto Rico in 1978-1980.
 
A native from Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Inter-American University of PR; he retired from the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. While his time in the military Fred coached the US Navy Armed Forces Team. 
 
Freddie lives with his wife Rosa in Virginia Beach, both have two sons Miguelángel and Jose, daughter-in-laws SaBrina and Shay and, two grand kids Lola and Yadi.

Coach Torres has “Baseball Coaches Certification A and B” from USA Baseball; all of which contain a series of courses that cover topics such as health and safety, creating a positive team environment, recognizing and responding to misconduct, practice planning, game management and skill-specific development.
