The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (26-0, 10-0 ODAC) defeated Randolph-Macon in a doubleheader, winning game one 2-0 and game two 7-0.
Game One:
Sarah Prosser led the offense going 2-for-2, scored one run, and stole one base.
Morgan Tucker was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and teammate
Karley Beltran was 1-for-2 at bat and had a stolen base.
Hannah Hearl pitched a gem as she pitched a complete 7.0 innings, allowed one hit, zero runs, and tallied 11 strikeouts.
In the opener, the Marlins struck first in the bottom of the first without recording a hit.
Laci Campbell worked a leadoff walk and immediately applied pressure, stealing both second and third. After advancing, Campbell came home on a throwing error by the catcher, giving Virginia Wesleyan a 1-0 lead.
The Marlins added to their advantage in the third inning.
Sarah Prosser started the rally with a single through the left side and then stole second. After moving to third on a groundout, Prosser crossed the plate on an RBI single up the middle from
Morgan Tucker, extending the lead to 2-0.
Game Two:
Samantha Deitsch led the offense, going 2-for-3 at bat, with a double, scoring two runs, and had two RBI.
Taylor Mcqueen went 2-for-4 and had two RBI.
Morgan Tucker was 1-for-4 with a double, scored one run, and had one RBI.
Emma Adams pitched 7.0 innings, allowed six hits, zero runs, and registered four strikeouts.
Samantha Deitsch singled and stole second before Taylor McQueen delivered an RBI single through the left side, bringing Deitsch home for a 1-0 edge.
Virginia Wesleyan created separation in the second inning thanks to more aggressive play on the bases.
Olivia Knight drew a walk and later scored on a wild pitch, while
Karley Beltran, who had doubled earlier in the inning, came around to score on a throwing error by the catcher. The sequence pushed the lead to 3-0.
The Marlins put the game out of reach in the fourth inning with a four-run outburst fueled by extra-base hits. After Beltran singled and stole second, and Prosser reached on a walk, Deitsch delivered a clutch two-RBI double to left center, scoring both runners.
Morgan Tucker followed with an RBI double of her own to plate Deitsch, and McQueen capped the inning with an RBI single up the middle to score Tucker, extending the lead to 7-0.
