No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan Dominates Sweet Briar in Twin Bill

The Virginia Wesleyan softball team (34-0, 16-0 ODAC) continued its historic run, sweeping Sweet Briar in dominant fashion with 11-0 and 9-0 victories to improve to 34-0 on the season.

Game One:
Morgan Tucker led the offensive charge with a two-run home run and multiple RBIs, while Samantha Deitsch added a pair of hits and drove in runs from the top of the lineup. Sarah Prosser and Laci Campbell each contributed RBIs, and Taylor McQueen added a double as part of a balanced offensive effort.

In the circle, Hannah Hearl was dominant, tossing four shutout innings while striking out seven and allowing just one hit.

The Marlins broke the game open in the third inning with a three-run frame. Laci Campbell singled and stole second before Samantha Deitsch drove her in with an RBI single. After Deitsch swiped second, Tucker delivered the big swing of the inning, blasting a two-run home run to push the advantage to 4-0.

VWU continued to build momentum in the fourth. Haley Sadler reached and advanced into scoring position before Karley Beltran singled and stole second to set the table. Sarah Prosser followed with an RBI single to score Sadler, and later in the inning, Campbell lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Beltran. Deitsch capped the inning with an RBI double, extending the lead to 7-0.

The Marlins put the game away in the fifth with four more runs. Alison Pollack reached base and was replaced by a pinch runner who advanced into scoring position on wild pitches before Olivia Knight walked and later scored during the sequence. Sadler drew a walk that forced in a run, and continued pressure led to additional runs scoring on a fielding error and another RBI opportunity from Prosser. Later in the inning, a pinch-hit RBI single from Mackenzie Swanson plated the final run to make it 11-0.

Game Two:
Morgan Tucker continued her standout day with a triple, double, and three RBIs to pace the offense. Taylor McQueen added two hits and two RBIs, while Samantha Deitsch recorded multiple hits and scored twice. Riley Curtice and Sarah Prosser also delivered key RBIs in the victory.

Emma Adams was exceptional in the circle, throwing four perfect innings with four strikeouts. Savannah Ballou closed the game to complete the shutout as the Marlins combined for a no-hitter.

After two scoreless innings, the Marlins broke through in the third with a four-run rally. Riley Curtice reached base and stole second before Sarah Prosser moved her along. Laci Campbell then delivered an RBI single to score Curtice for the game's first run. Deitsch followed with a single to keep the inning alive, and Tucker came through with a two-run triple to plate both runners. McQueen capped the inning with an RBI single, giving VWU a 4-0 lead.

Virginia Wesleyan added another run in the fourth inning. Alison Pollack worked a walk and advanced into scoring position, while Olivia Knight singled to help load the bases. Curtice then lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Pollack and extend the lead to 5-0.
