The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team (1-0-1) earned a 3-0 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy (0-1-1) on Tuesday afternoon at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex.
Zach Bittler led the offense scoring two goals, with one assists in the win,
Cowen Napior got his first career point with an assist on the third goal for VWU.
Ryan McAdams scored the first goal of the game and teammate Gio Zizza added an assist.
Ben Haynes recorded his first win of the season, he played 69:49 minutes, and recorded one game in the win.
The Marlins offense clicked with three goals on the day.
Ryan McAdams opened the scoring in the 17th minute, converting off an assist from
Zach Bittler to give VWU the early lead. After halftime, Bittler struck twice within a nine-minute span, scoring in the 50th minute before adding his second in the 58th minute on a play set up by
Cowen Napior and Gio Zizza to secure the 3-0 final. In goal,
Ben Haynes and
Seth Brown combined for the shutout, collecting four saves between them to keep the Mariners off the board.
The Marlins return to action on Saturday, September 6, at 5:00 PM when they host the University of Redlands at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach.
