The Virginia Wesleyan softball team wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning as leadoff hitter
Sarah Prosser set the tone by ripping a single down the left field line. The Marlins kept the pressure on when
Laci Campbell delivered a double into the left-center gap, moving Prosser up to third and putting two runners in scoring position with just one out.
Morgan Tucker then stepped to the plate and executed her role perfectly, lifting a fly ball to center field for a sacrifice fly. Prosser tagged up and came home to score the game's first run, while Campbell advanced to third on the play. Virginia Wesleyan exited the frame with a 1-0 lead.
Trine's bats got going in the bottom of the second as they scored two runs on three hits to lead 2-1 after two innings.
The Thunder kept the lead and scored two runs in the fourth and added four more in the sixth to seal the 8-1 win.
The two teams will play tomorrow for game two of the NCAA DIII Softball Championship Tournament with the game scheduled to start at 12 PM.
