The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (13-1) defeated Moravian in a 5-0 shutout win and fell to George Fox 4-1.
Today, the Virginia Wesleyan University Softball program honored three of its nine Seniors. Lexie Hudgens, Mirandah Jenkins, and Mackenzie Myers.
Game One:
Olivia Knight led the team as she went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI, Joslyn Woodard was 2-for-2 with one RBI, and Mackenzie Myers was 1-for-4, scored one run, and stole two bases.
Lauren Bible got the win in the circle, as she pitched 4.0 inning, allowed two hits, and recorded two strikeouts. Emma Adams came in relief and was credited with the save, pitched 3.0 innings, and tallied four strikeouts.
In the bottom of the first, the Marlins capitalized on a series of small plays to score three unearned runs. Sarah Prosser started things off with a bunt single and, after Laci Campbell reached on a fielder's choice, she stole second. A walk drawn by Morgan Tucker, the Marlins' offense continued to press. Emma Adams reached base on another fielder's choice, and with a throwing error from the third baseman, Campbell advanced to third. Olivia Knight then stepped up with a clutch three-run double to left field, scoring Adams, Tucker, and Campbell to give Virginia Wesleyan a 3-0 lead.
The Marlins extended their lead in the bottom of the third inning. Mackenzie Myers led off with a single and stole second, followed by a walk drawn by Morgan Tucker. Both players stole additional bases, with Myers reaching third. Olivia Knight continued to spark the offense by drawing a walk. Julia Piotrowski added a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing Myers home for the fourth run. Finally, Joslyn Woodward singled to left field, plating Knight and Tucker, giving Virginia Wesleyan a commanding 5-0 lead. The Marlins' timely hits and aggressive base running sealed the 5-0 win over Moravian.
Game Two:
Joslyn Woodard was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Moargan Tucker was 1-for-3 and scored one run, and Alexis Hudgens was 1-for-1.
Hannah Hearl started in the circle and recorded the loss, pitched 4.0 innings, allowed one hit, one earned run, and had one strikeout.
Geroge Fox came out swinging after losing to Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday and opened up the scoring in the first inning to lead 1-0. They added a second run in the fifth to lead 2-0.
The Bruins added two more runs in the top of the sixth to lead 4-0.
Virginia Wesleyan scored in the bottom of the sixth inning. M.organ Tucker singled to right field to lead off the inning, and Emma Adams followed with a walk, advancing Tucker to second. After two fly outs, Joslyn Woodward came through with a clutch single to left field, bringing in Tucker to score and advancing Deitsch to third. However, the Marlins could not complete the comeback and lost 4-1.
