The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball team (20-19, 11-11 ODAC) lost to the #2 Seed Roanoke in two games losing game one 8-3 and losing game two 13-6.
Game 1:
Offensively, the Marlins were led by Samuel Kasprow who was 2-for-4 with a double and scored one run. Josh Goodrich was 1-for-3 with an RBI. On the mound, Ian Brady went 4.0 innings with two strikeouts, Anthony Roszko went 1.0 innings with one strikeout and Sean Keener threw 3.0 innings striking out three.
The Marlins scored first, scoring one run in the first inning. Crandall led off the game with a double, Micheal Burton Jr. then singled putting Crandall on third. The next batter Micah Fox singled, scoring Crandall to make it a 1-0 game.
VWU added another run in their half of the second, leading off the inning with a double was Kasprow. A few batters later Goodrich singled, scoring Kasprow making it 2-0 Marlins. Roanoke scored one run in the bottom of the second on two hits making it a 2-1 game.
The Marlins scored another run in their half of the third to make it a 3-1 game. Burton Jr. led off the inning with a single and got to third a batter later on a single by Fox. Burton Jr. then scored on a fielder's choice which put Nick Sylvester on first but got Fox out at second.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Maroons scored three runs on three hits and an error by the Marlins making it a 4-3 game. They scored three more runs on two hits in the bottom of the fifth making it a 7-3 game. They scored one more run of two hits in the bottom of the sixth to make it an 8-3 game.
Game 2:
John Bastiaans led the offense going 3-for-4 at-bat with a double, scored one run, and had one RBI, Micah Fox was 2-for-4 with a grand slam, scored one run, and had four RBI, and Thomas Crandall went 2-for-5 and scored one run.
Jack McDowell pitched 4.0 innings, allowed eight hits, and five runs, and had four strikeouts.
The Maroons scored two runs in the bottom of the first and scored one more run in the third to lead 3-0.
Virginia Wesleyan responded in the top of the third as John Bastianns led with a double to right center field, Ty James singled to left center and scored Bastiaans to bring the score to 3-1. Thomas Crandall singled through the left side and Michael Burton Jr. walked to load up the bases of Micah Fox who hit a homer to right field to take a 5-3 lead. Sylvester walked, Chris Mitchell Jr. was hit by a pitch and Sam Kasprow reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners. Bastiaans doubled down the right field line to score Sylvester from third to lead 6-3.
The Maroons scored one run in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to cut the lead to 6-5. Then, in the fifth scored eight runs to take a 13-6 lead over VWU.
