The Virginia Wesleyan University women's tennis defeated Bridgewater 5-3 in non-conference play.
Mikisha Thomas and Shannon Lewes won their No. 2 doubles match 8-3, and Sophia Bibbo and Haley Haydon won the No. 3 match 8-4. However, in the No. 1 match, the duo of Tuva Flink and Sophie Engelberts dropped their match 8-7 to give the Marlins a 2-1 lead.
Sophie Engelberts continued her good run of play winning in the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-1 and teammate Shannon Lewes won in the No. 3 spot 6-2, 6-1.
Tuva Flink lost her match 1-6, 2-6 to bring the score to 4-2. Mikisha Thomas had an exciting match, going to a third set, losing 3-6, winning 6-2, and losing 0-6 in the third set that brought the Eagles within one of the Marlins at 4-3.
The match came down to the No. 5 singles spot, where Sophia Bibbo won in comeback fashion, losing the first set 4-6, and winning the next two sets 6-3 and 6-0 to seal the 5-3 win for the Marlins.
Due to the weather, the No. 6 match did not finish.
