The Virginia Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team (5-12, 3-6 ODAC) lost to the No. 5 seed Randolph-Macon in the first round of the ODAC Championship Tournament.
Helen Kennedy-Butler led the offense as she scored three goals, and one assist, on six shots, Madison Pfister scored two goals, two ground balls, and six draw controls, and Gianna Delevan had one goal, one assist, and had one draw control.
Brittneyann Hoover started in net, allowed 17 goals, and tallied four saves, through 50 minutes of play.
The Marlins struck first as Helen Kennedy-Butler scored the first goal of the game for the Marlins. The Yellow Jackets responded with five goals to take a 5-1 lead over VWU. Kennedy-Butler connected with Gianna Delevan to cut the host lead to 5-2 with 7:42 left in the first quarter. RMC scored five more goals to take a 10-2 lead before Gianna Delevan scored off an assist from Kennedy-Butler to bring the score to 10-3. The Yellow Jackets held a 13-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
RMC outscored VWU 4-2 in the second quarter, with the two Marlins goals scored by Madison Pfister, the first goal with a great feed from Michaela Elston to bring the score to 17-5 at halftime.
Helen Kennedy-Butler scored her third goal of the game off a free position shot that cut the lead to 18-6 in the third quarter.
Virginia Wesleyan fought hard but fell to Randolph-Macon 26-6.
