Softball Secures Sweep Over Randolph

The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (28-7, 18-2 ODAC) swept conference opponent Randolph 12-3 in game one, and 6-2 in game two. 

Game One:

The game witnessed an early offensive onslaught from Virginia Wesleyan, igniting a 5-run surge in the 2nd inning. Joslyn Woodard kicked off the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing home Emma Adams. This was followed by a patient at-bat from Laci Campbell, who drew a walk with the bases loaded, pushing Brooke Powell across the plate. Mackenzie Myers then exhibited disciplined plate discipline, drawing another walk to bring in Haley Sadler. Alison Pollack capitalized on the opportunity, delivering a clutch single through the left side, driving in Laci Campbell and Julia Piotrowski.

Maintaining their offensive momentum, Virginia Wesleyan added another run in the 4th inning. Mackenzie Myers lofted a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Laci Campbell to tag up and score, extending their lead to 6-0. However, Randolph mounted a response in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored two runs trimming the deficit to 6-2.

Undeterred by Randolph's rally, Virginia Wesleyan unleashed an explosive offensive barrage in the sixth inning, tallying seven more runs to put the game out of reach. Joslyn Woodard sparked the rally with a single up the middle, driving in Myers. McKenzie Dewhurst then capitalized on a scoring opportunity, delivering a single to the catcher, allowing Woodard to score. 

The onslaught continued, as Julia Piotrowski laced a ground-rule double, bringing in both Brooke Powell and Woodard. Karley Beltran joined the hit parade with a single to left field, driving in Dewhurst. Campbell followed suit with a single to right field, plating Laci Bible. Autumn Boothe capped off the scoring frenzy with a single to left field, bringing home Karley Beltran.

Laci Campbell emerged as a standout performer for Virginia Wesleyan, showcasing her versatility with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate, including a triple, scored two runs, and recorded two RBI, Alison Pollack was 2-for-4 and had two RBI, and Joslyn Woodard was 2-for-3, scored one run, and registered two RBI. 

Anchoring the pitching staff, Emma Adams provided stability on the mound, limiting Randolph to just 2 runs over 3 innings, ultimately securing her 13th win of the season.

Game Two:

Virginia Wesleyan wasted no time in making their mark on the scoreboard, striking early in the second inning. Joslyn Woodard ignited the offense with a single to right center, driving in Emma Adams for the first run of the game. Brooke Powell then capitalized on a passed ball to scamper home, extending Virginia Wesleyan's lead to 2-0. Randolph fought back in the third inning, knotting the score at 2-2. 

Virginia Wesleyan regained the lead in the fourth inning. Julia Piotrowsk blasted a double to center field to drive in Woodard putting Virginia Wesleyan ahead 3-2.

In the fifth inning when Alison Pollack singled to the catcher, allowing Laci Campbell to score and extending the lead to 4-2.

Virginia Wesleyan continued to apply pressure in the later innings, adding insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Julia Piotrowsk drove in Emily Halloway with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, while Brooke Powell reached on a fielder's choice in the seventh inning, bringing home Laci Campbell and sealing the 6-2 victory.

On the mound, Emma Adams delivered a solid performance for Virginia Wesleyan, pitched five innings and allowing just 2 runs. Julia Piotrowski provided strong relief pitching, securing the save and sealing the win for the Marlins. 

Offensively, Laci Campbell was 2-for-4, stole two bases, and scored two runs, Joslyn Woodard was 2-for-3, scored one run, and had one RBI, and Alison Pollack was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
