Elliott Reaches 601 Career Wins In Sweep Over EMU

The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (19-6, 9-1 ODAC) swept conference opponent EMU 6-0 and 8-0. 

Head Coach Brandon Elliott, who is in his 18th year of coaching, has amassed 601 career wins as a head coach. Posting a career record of 601-148-1 and a 231-50 conference record, he sits 21st on the All-Time coaches list. For the full list click Here.

Game One:
Mackenzie Myers was on fire as she went 4-for-4 with a double and a triple, scored two runs, and had four RBI, Olivia Knight was 2-for-3 with a double, and Karley Beltran was 1-for-3 with a double, scored two runs, and had one RBI. 

Savannah Laird registered the win in the circle as she pitched 7.0 innings, allowed zero runs and three hits, and tallied four strikeouts. 

Virginia Wesleyan scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Karley Beltran and Laci Campbell both walked before Mackenzie Myers hit a triple to score two runs. Then, Emma Adams hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Myers from third to put VWU up 3-0.

The Marlins scored another run in the third as Myers singled up the middle and stole second, advancing to third on a throwing error by the catcher and scored on a wild pitch to go up 4-0.

VWU added two more runs in the sixth inning, as Sara Prosser singled up the middle and stole second, but was forced out of the game due to injury. McKenzie Dewhurst pinch-ran for Prosser followed by a double from Beltran that scored Dewhurst. Beltran advanced to second on a passed ball and Campbell hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Beltran to put the Marlins up 6-0.

Game Two:
Julia Piotrowski was 1-for-2, scored one run, and had one RBI with two stolen bases, Karley Beltran was 1-for-2, scored two runs, and stole three bases, and Mackenzie Myers was 1-for-2 with a double, scored one run, and had one stolen base. 

Emma Adams pitched a complete game, pitched 6.0 innings, allowed one hit, zero runs, and registered five strikeouts. 

The Marlins got on the board in the first with three runs. Karley Beltran hit a lead-off single to left field and stole second. Three consecutive walks for Myers, Adams, and Knight put the Marlins up 1-0. Boothe reached on an error by the shortstop that scored Myers and Adams to give VWU a 3-0 lead. 

Autumn Boothe hit a lead-off double down the left-field line and Brianna Jones pinch-ran for Boothe. Haley Sadler hit a sacrifice bunt to move Jones to third, and another sacrifice bunt from Julia Piotrowski put the Marlins up 4-0. 

In the sixth inning, Virginia Wesleyan got hot as Haley Sadler hit a double to left field to begin the inning, Piotrowski hit a bunt single to put runners on the corners. Joslyn Woodard hit a sacrifice fly to score pinch runner Emily Tucker from third. Piotrowski stole third and the throw came off the fielder into the dugout that scored Piotrowski to put the Marlins up 6-0. With the bases cleared and one out Beltran walked and stole second, before Campbell who singled to right center field and scored Beltran. Campbell stole second, and Myers walked to put runners on first and second for Adams who hit a single to score Campbell and seal the 8-0 win over the Royals.
