Virginia Wesleyan Softball Sweep Ferrum in Doubleheader

The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (11-4, 3-1 ODAC) defeated ODAC opponent Ferrum in both games, winning game one 10-0, and game two 13-3. 

Game One:
Sarah Prosser walked to start the game, Karley Beltran singled to move Prosser to second, and a double steal put runners on second and third for Alison Pollack. Pollack hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Prosser and move Beltran to third. Then, Emma Adams hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Beltran to put the Marlins up 2-0. 

Olivia Knight reached on an error by the third baseman, and a grounder to third moved Knight to second, Halee Hawkins singled through the right side to put runners on the corners. Sarah Prosser singled to score Knight to give the Marlins a 3-0 lead. 

VWU held a 3-0 lead until the fifth inning, where they extended their lead, as Beltran singled up the middle and moved to second on Pollack's ground out to third and Adams's ground out to the pitcher moved her to third. Autumn Boothe doubled to score Beltran and put the Marlins up 4-0. 

Virginia Wesleyan's offense exploded in the sixth, as Jenna Laird was hit by a pitch and stole second, before Mackenzie Myers singled up the middle to score Laird. Prosser singled to move Myers to second, and a passed ball moved the runners into scoring position. Beltran singled up the middle and scored Myers to give the Marlins a 6-0 lead. With the bases loaded Emma Adams hit a two-RBI double to right field that scored Beltran and Prosser to bring the score to 8-0. Haley Sadler reached on an error to score Pollack from third and move Brianna Jones to third. Olivia Knight hit a sacrifice fly to left field and scored Jones to give the Marlins a 10-0 lead. 

Karley Beltran led the offense as she hit 3-for-4 at-bat, stole two bases, scored three runs, and had one RBI, Sarah Prosser went 2-for-3, with one stolen base, scored two runs, and had one RBI. Autumn Boothe went 2-for-3 with a double, and one RBI, and teammate Emma Adams was 1-for-2 at-bat with a double and three RBI.

Lauren Bible got the win in the circle, as she pitched 4.2 innings, allowed one hit, and had eight strikeouts. 

Game Two:
Sarah Prosser led the game off with a double and stole third base, and then Alison Pollack hit a homer to center field to take a 2-0 lead. Autumn Boothe reached first on an error and made it to second. Olivia Knight doubled to right center field to score Boothe to lead 3-0. Mackenzie Myers hit a two RBI home run to right center to give the Marlins a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. 

In the second inning, Pollack was walked and Boothe singled to left center scored Pollack, and the next batter Knight singled up the middle putting the Marlins up 7-0. 

The Marlins scored one run in the third as Halee Hawkins walked and moved to second on a ground out by Prosser, then scored on a single by Beltran to lead 8-0. 

Autumn Boothe singled to lead-off in the fourth Olivia Knight singled to move pinch runner Emily Tucker to second, and Myers singled to load the bases. Julia Piotrowski singled to center field and scored Tucker and Joslyn Woodard singled up the middle to score Myers and Knight to give VWU an 11-0 lead. Jones reached first on an error and moved Woodard to second before Sam Smith singled to center field to score Woodard and Piotrowski to lead 13-0. The Panthers scored three runs in the fifth to cut the score to 13-3, but the lead was too big and the Marlins won game two 13-3.

Mackenzie Myers led the offense in game two as she went 3-for-4 with a home run, scored two runs, and two RBI, Olivia Knight was 3-for-3 at-bat with a double, scored two runs, and registered two RBI, and Alison Pollack went 2-for-2 with a homer, scored two runs, and tallied two RBI. 

Savannah Laird got the win as she pitched 4.0 innings, allowed six hits, and had five strikeouts, and teammate Lauren Bible came in relief to pitch 1.0 innings, allowed three runs on two hits, and had three strikeouts.
