The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (11-6, 3-1 ODAC) lost to No. 2 Salisbury 16-2 and 6-5.
Game One:
The Marlins fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, then allowed eight runs in the second inning to go down 9-1. The Seagulls added four more runs in the third to take a 13-0 lead.
Virginia Wesleyan responded with a run in the fifth as
Karley Beltran walked,
Mackenzie Myers singled to put runners on the corners for
Olivia Knight who singled through the left side to score Beltran from third.
Salisbury scored three runs in the fourth to lead 16-1. The Marlins scored one run in the fifth as
Laci Campbell hit a solo home run to bring the score to 16-2.
Game Two:
Salisbury kept up the pressure in game two scoring four runs in the first two innings to lead 4-0. The Marlins responded in the third inning, as
Sarah Prosser doubled followed by a triple from
Laci Campbell that scored Prosser to bring the score to 4-1.
In the sixth inning, the Marlins offense awoke, as
Laci Campbell and
Mackenzie Myers walked before
Jenna Laird homered to left field to tie the game at 4-4. With one out,
Emma Adams singled and
Emily Halloway came in to pinch run and stole second. Then,
Julia Piotrowski singled to right field to score Halloway and give the Marlins a 5-4 lead.
The Seagulls scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete the comeback and seal the 6-5 win over the Marlins.
