The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (9-4, 1-1 ODAC) dropped the first game 7-3 and won game two 4-0.
Game One:
The Marlins got on the board in the first inning as
Sarah Prosser doubled, followed by a single from Laci Campell to put runners on the corners for
Karley Beltran. Beltran hit an RBI single to score Prosser from third, then
Alison Pollack reached on an error by the third base to score Campbell and give the Marlins a 2-0 lead.
No. 11 Randolph-Macon scored one run in the second to cut the lead to 2-1. Then, in the third scored two more runs to lead 3-2, and in the third inning scored four runs to take a 7-2 lead.
That score held until the sixth inning, Beltran hit a leadoff single up the middle, Pollack doubled to right center field putting runners on the corners, and
Emma Adams reached on an error by the shortstop that scored Beltran to bring the score to 7-3.
Karley Beltran led the offense for the Marlins going 3-for-4, scored one run, stole one base, and had one RBI,
Sarah Prosser went 1-for-4 at-bat with a double and scored a run, and
Alison Pollack went 1-for-4 with a double.
Lauren Bible pitched 3.2 innings, allowed four hits, for seven runs, and had one strikeout and
Julia Piotrowski came in relief and pitched 3.1 innings, allowed five hits, zero runs, and recorded one strikeout.
Game Two:
Game two was a defensive gem as neither team was able to get on the board and combined both pitchers let five total hits through the first four innings.
Until the bottom of the fifth inning, as
Laci Campbell hit a lead-off single through the right side and stole second to put a runner at second,
Sarah Prosser had a fantastic bunt single to put runners on the corners, and
Karley Beltran walked to load up the bases of
Alison Pollack. With no outs and the bases loaded, Pollack smashed a four-run homer to left-center field to put Virginia Wesleyan up 4-0.
Savannah Laird pitched a complete game, 7.0 innings, zero runs, five hits, and tallied six strikeouts.
