The Virginia Wesleyan University women's tennis team was defeated by Centre College 8-1 in non-conference action.
In doubles, Tuva Flink and Sophie Engelberts faced off against Grace Williams and Maddy Trinh in an 8-4 loss in the No. 1 spot. Mikisha Thomas and Shannon Lewes fell 8-2 in the No. 2 singles to Charlie Mitchell and Kennedy Herring, and the No. 3 doubles of Kristina Abrams and Haley Haydon lost 8-0 to Kayla Harger and Natalie Black.
Mikisha Thomas played in the No. 3 singles match and was the first to finish as she fell 6-1, 6-0. Tuva Flink fought hard against Carlie Mitchell but lost 2-6, 2-6 in the No. 1 singles match, and teammate Sophie Engelberts put up a fight against Grace Williams in the No. 2 singles spot narrowly losing 4-6, 4-6.
Sophia Bibbo finished the No. 5 singles spot with a 0-6, 1-6 loss to Natalie Black.
Shannon Lewes grabbed a point for the Marlins in a three-set thriller winning set one 7-6, dropping the second set 6-4, and winning the deciding set 10-8.
Haley Haydon fell to Sophie Maddux 4-6, 1-6 in the No. 6 singles spot.
The Women's Tennis team travel on the road on March 24, to face conference opponent Lynchburg for a 1:00 p.m. match.
