Marlins Sweep Stockton in Home Opener

The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (7-3) defeated Stockton 5-0 in game one and 2-1 in game two of the doubleheader. 

Lauren Bible was great in the circle as she tallied two wins, pitched 8.2 innings, allowed zero runs, one hit, and registered a career-high eight strikeouts. 

Game One:
The Marlins scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning as Alison Pollack hit a double to left field followed by a home run from Emma Adams.

In the fifth inning, Sarah Prosser singled down the left field line, and Laci Campbell reached on an error by the shortstop to move Prosser to second. Then, Karley Beltran singled up the middle to score Prosser and Campbell to double the Marlins advantage. 

With two outs in the sixth inning, Prosser walked and stole second followed by a single from Campbell that scored Prosser to give the Marlins a 5-0 lead. 

Lauren Bible pitched a complete game allowed zero runs, one hit, and tallied a career-high eight strikeouts in the win. 

Sarah Prosser went 1-for-3 at the plate, scored two runs, and had two stolen bases, Emma Adams was 1-for-2 with a home run, and Karley Beltran went 1-for-4, and recorded two RBI. 

Game Two:
A defensive start from both teams, as no one scored in the first four innings of the game. The Ospreys scored in the top of the fifth to take a 1-0 lead, but the Marlins responded in the bottom of the inning. Jenna Laird started the offense with a single down the left field line, then stole second, and Sarah Prosser hit a double to score Laird and tie the game at 1-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Julia Piotrowski hit a lead-off single. She stole second to get into scoring position for Halee Sadler, who hit a sacrifice bunt to move Piotrowski to third. Halee Hawkins hit a squeeze bunt to score Piotrowski from third to seal the 2-1 win for the Marlins. 

Emma Adams was 2-for-3 at the plate, Sarah Prosser was 1-for-3 with a double and had one RBI, and Halee Hawkins was 1-for-2 and drove in the game-winning run.

Savannah Laird started the second game in the circle and pitched 5.1 innings, allowed one run, on five hits, and had two strikeouts. Lauren Bible got the win in relief as she pitched the last 1.2 innings, and allowed zero runs.
