The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team (3-1) took two games against North Carolina Wesleyan, winning game one 6-5 and won game two 8-0.
Game One:
The Lady Bishops scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to lead the Marlins 2-0.
In the top of the seventh inning,
Autumn Boothe walked,
Jenna Laird reached first on an error by the the pitcher, and Halloway walked to load the bases.
Karley Beltran hit a two RBI single to left center field to tie the game at 2-2.
Virginia Wesleyan forced extra innings and scored two runs in the top of the eighth as
Emma Adams singled up the middle to score
Laci Campbell from second.
Emily Tucker pinch ran for Adams and stole second,
Mirandah Jenkins doubled to center field to score Tucker to give VWU a 4-2 lead. NC Wesleyan scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 4-4.
Halee Hawkins hit a bunt single that scored
Brianna Jones on a throwing error by third base. Beltran doubled to left center field to score Hawkins and put the Malrins up 6-5.
Bible came in to pitch in the bottom of the ninth to get the save, pitching 1.0 innings, allowed one run on one hit, and had three strikeouts.
Karley Beltran went 3-for-5 at bat with a double, and three RBI,
Emma Adams went 2-for-4 with one RBI, and recorded the win in the circle pitching 8.0 innings, allowing four runs on five hits, with nine strikeouts, and
Mirandah Jenkins went 1-for-1 with a double, scored one run, and one RBI.
Game Two:
Beltran walked and stole second followed by a single from
Laci Campbell to right field put move Beltran to third, then
Alison Pollack doubled to center field to put the Marlins up 1-0.
Emma Adams doubled to score Pollack, and
Mirandah Jenkins singled to left center to score Adams to give VWU a 3-0 lead.
Julia Piotrowski started the second inning with a lead off walk and advanced to third ona wild pitch,
Halee Hawkins singled to center field to score Piotrowski. A ground out by
Sarah Prosser and a wild pitch advanced Hawkins to third, and a ground out by Beltran scored Hawkins to bring the score to 5-0.
In the third inning, Pollack was walked and pinch runner
Emily Halloway stole second. Jenkins and
Mackenzie Myers walked to load up the bases for Piotrowski who singled through the left side to scored Halloway.
Autumn Boothe was walked to score and run and give the Marlins a 7-0 lead.
Sarah Prosser hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Myers and lead 8-0.
Laci Campbell went 2-for-3 at the plate,
Alison Pollack was 1-for-2 with a double, scored one run, and one RBI, and
Emma Adams was 1-for-2 with a double, scored one run, and one RBI.
Lauren Bible pitched 4.0 innings, allowed zero runs, two hits, and had three strikeouts.
