Softball Split Doubleheader with Meredith

The Virginia Wesleyan University went 1-1 in the season opener against Meredith, dropping game 3-2 and winning game two 12-4. 

Game One:
Methodist scored two runs in the first inning. The Marlins responded with a run in the second inning as Olivia Knight hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Julia Piotrowski from third to cut the lead to 3-1. 

After three scoreless innings, the Marlins scored one run in the sixth. Emma Adams led off with a single, Autumn Booth singled to left field to put runners on first and second. Knight reached on a fielder's choice that scored the runner at second to bring the score to 3-2. 

The Angels held on to their 3-2 lead in the seventh to win game one of the doubleheader.

Lauren Bible pitched 6.0 innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits, with six strikeouts. 

Laci Campbell led the Marlins going 2-for-2 at bat with two walks, Olivia Knight went 1-for-3 with two RBI, and Julia Piotrowski went 1-for-3 and scored one run. 

Game Two:
Looking to bounce back in game two, Sarah Prosser hit a leadoff single in the first, and Karley Beltran and Halee Hawkins both reached on an error to score Prosser and take a 1-0 lead. Alison Pollack smacked a triple to right field to score Hawkins and Beltran to take a 3-0 lead. Piotrowski and Booth walked to load up the bases and Olivia Knight flew out to left field to score Pollack from third to lead 4-0. The Angels responded with two runs in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 4-2. 

Meredith scored one run in the second and third to tie the game at 4-4. 

In the fourth inning, Sarah Prosser hit a single up the middle and stole second to start the rally. Baltran singled to left field putting runners on the corners, then Hawkins singled to score Prosser from third. With Hawkins and Beltran on second and third Emma Adams doubled to left field to take a 7-4 lead heading into the fifth inning. 

Virginia Wesleyan scored five runs on six hits and won the game 12-4. 

Savannah Laird made her debut in the circle for the Marlins, pitched 3.1 innings, allowed four runs on six hits, and had two strikeouts, and Emma Adamns got the win in relief pitching 1.2 innings, allowed zero runs, and had three strikeouts.

Alison Pollack went 2-for-4 at the plate, with a triple and a double, scored one run, and led the team with four RBI, Karley Beltran was 2-for-4, with a double, scored three runs, and had two RBI, and Emma Adams was 2-for-4, with a double, and two RBI.
